Info and Cat trivia

* Friends, if you have a cat, please keep in mind: Cats and kittens should be acquired in pairs whenever possible as cat families interact best in pairs.

* Who cares but... the first official cat show in the UK was organised in 1871; in America - in 1895.

* Please, please, please! Never pick a kitten up by the neck. Only a mother cat may do this safely.

* Never give your cat aspirin unless specifically prescribed by your veterinarian. It can be fatal.

(For your cat, of course, not for the veterinarian).

* Never give human painkillers (Tylenol, etc) to your cat. And keep anti-freeze away from all

animals - it's poison.

* Don't feed your cat chocolate. It is also poisonous to cats. (Lucky you, you are not a cat!)

* Owning a cat can decrease the occurrence of high blood pressure.

* It has been proven that people who own pets live longer and have fewer heart attacks.

* Neutering a cat extends her life span by 2 or 3 years.

* A group of kittens is called a kindle. A group of cats is called a clowder.

(So "kindle" is not only Amazon's wireless reading device).

* In 900 BC Phoenician cargo ships brought the first domesticated cats to Europe. But some historians

doubt that. (You'd better ask your cat).

* The ancient Egyptians were the first nation to tame cats. (4000 or 3000 BC).

* A cat spends nearly 30% of its life grooming itself.

* Maybe you like citrus plants but lemon and orange rinds are toxic to cats. A rubbing of lemon peel on furniture will discourage your cat from using it as a scratching post.

* Average year, rich and poor Americans spend more than $5.4 billion on their pets.
